Madonna Matador of the Press

Madonna Matador of the Press

With more than 30 years of constant public attention and a number of, at times shocking and provoking, tricks up her sleeve the Queen of Pop knows how to work the press.

Few people would be able to tell which artists were rewarded with a prestigious Brit Award in February, but everyone across the globe remembers Madonna’s spectacular tumble on the stage. Sales figures for her Living for Love single skyrocketed, a song that used to be well outside the top 100 shot to the top of the iTunes chart. Her greatest hits album sales increased by 62% overnight.

Sceptics speculate that this may have been a way to prove that she doesn’t lipsync or a clever way to get publicity and boost sales. No one was surprised when she got back up and continued her show, because that’s what she does. Unlike other female stars she has never had problems with being taken seriously, she’s a force to be reckoned with.

Whether the fall was intentional or not there’s no question that by giving Drake a French kiss at Coachella, Madonna knew exactly what she was doing. Yet again she’s dominating entertainment news across the globe. The Queen of Pop is yet again the most talked about singer at the most famous music festival after a lip lock that lasted for 10 seconds. I’m sure that there were many fantastic performances at the event, but hers will be remembered and talked about in 10 years time. Others? Not so sure.

If Madonna wants to be on the cover of every newspaper she’ll make it and that’s why she’s not only the Queen of Pop but also Master of the Press.
